ARPSESS History

ARPSESS started with the publication of its first research study entitled “Sustainable Wellbeing and Development – A reading of Italy”, published by Universitalia. The book was presented to the public at CNEL headquarters for the first time in late November 2016.

2017 launched the planning of training activities designed for Third Sector managers and aimed at developing strategic planning skills driven by UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The training program was held from February to December 2018 and consisted of alternating in-person classroom teaching with hands-on drill and practice on specific projects to which Third Sector trainees were exposed throughout 2018. The training program ended with the drafting of a notebook on sustainable development in the Third Sector.

In collaboration with the Roman Convivium association and in remembrance of Fabiola Riccardini’s late mother, Aldemira Barbini, ARPSESS held a conference in November 2018 entitled “Montesicuro: a case study”. In a debate engaged with the author of “Riace: a case study”, ARPSESS sought to envisage a new course of action for Montesicuro, a small town near Ancona, as a case study towards equitable, sustainable and solidarity/inclusive wellbeing and development .

In July 2020, the conference held in Montesicuro led to the formation of an active citizenship group on Facebook in support of the dissemination of cultural values drawn from the Italian Constitution and driven towards the capitalization of collective inclusive well-being and the enhancement of the natural beauty, cultural heritage and landscape of some boroughs located in the Ancona area, the capital city of the Marche region. Today the group members number almost 350.

Since its inception, ARPSESS eagerly engaged in the organization of training aimed at developing the skills required to help and assist the most vulnerable social groups, e.g. juvenile criminology and social psychology training designed for parents and field practitioners, aimed at promoting efficient consultation and learning practices to benefit vulnerable minors by leveraging emotional understanding and trust put in the minors to help them become self-responsible and prevent them from engaging in social deviance and criminal behaviours.

Several high schools in Rome were involved in a training program aimed at promoting open dialogue between the trainer (a juvenile magistrate) and trainees (high schoolers) on the issue of education to legality, active citizenship and bullying prevention.

A consultation centre for the most vulnerable was open, to provide first contact consultation services for the people in need of help (minors suffering from drugs, alcohol and digital addiction, disabled people, the elderly living alone, foreign families), to provide periodical and reliable psychological and social support services.
